According to analysts at the Baltic Exchange and Xinhua News Agency, which has been responsible for the annual publication of this index since 2014, “Greece continues to play one of the most important roles in the international shipping sector, with more than 1,000 shipping offices based either in Athens or in the greater Attica region.”
Athens and Piraeus play an important role in maritime technologies. Start-up technology companies are active, working with the Greek marine community to develop unique and modern solutions.
The Greek shipping hub has risen for the third consecutive year while other historic international shipping hubs such as Hamburg are falling behind.
