The Greek and Cypriot governments are in search of a political solution to save the project and take on the geopolitical risk of the electricity Great Sea Interconnector after repeated negotiations since early summer have led the two sides to an impasse, as the time for the project counts down.
The inability to reach an agreement was confirmed for the umpteenth time in the latest teleconference held last Friday 23 August (and not yesterday 26 August as originally planned) with ADMIE CEO Manos Manousakis signalling that unless there is an explicit written commitment from Cyprus on the regulatory and geopolitical outstanding issues tomorrow Wednesday the French company Nexans, which has undertaken the construction of the cables, will stop the project.
Now the ball of talks is reportedly being passed on to Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Cypriot President Nicos Christodoulides in order not to miss the opportunity of the big energy project.
