The 50-year-old woman and her minor son, who had been arrested for the series of arsons in Nea Makri, were recently found to be in custody with the agreement of the investigator and the prosecutor.
In contrast, the 61-year-old orthopedic surgeon, who has been arrested for the same case and lives with the 50-year-old woman, was released after his plea. No restraining order was imposed on him.
The three defendants are accused for the offense of arson with intent and aggravated arson, which relates to a total of six fires and two arson attempts in the Nea Makri area. According to the fire service, all the fires broke out in the early hours of the morning, between 03.00 – 04.00 with the last fire occurring last Sunday.
It is worth noting that the 61-year-old man and the 50-year-old woman went through the door of the interrogation office and shortly afterwards the minor son of the accused appeared at the interrogation office and surrendered.
The minor was wanted by the authorities since last Monday as according to the case file he was involved in causing the fires.
