SYRIZA: Political Secretariat Returns Legal Notice, Kasselakis Threatens Prosecutor

Urgent Central Committee Meeting Called for Saturday – Olga Gerovasili and the "87" Demand Kasselakis' Expulsion After Legal Notice, While Pavlos Polakis Opposes the Move

Newsroom October 8 06:06

The Central Committee is convening urgently on Saturday – Olga Gerovasili and the “87” demand Kasselakis’ expulsion after the legal notice – Pavlos Polakis opposes the expulsion.

During the meeting, members will be informed about the legal notice sent by Stefanos Kasselakis to the Central Committee and the Political Secretariat, following the publication of his financial disclosure in a newspaper. Olga Gerovasili emphasized that the Central Committee will discuss and evaluate its stance regarding this unprecedented behavior.

“The Political Secretariat has returned the legal notice, and he is now threatening with a prosecutor’s intervention. This matter goes beyond the limits of the Political Secretariat, which is why we need to return to the members of the Central Committee to make decisions,” she stated.

In the vote that took place, Rena Dourou and Panos Rigas opposed the request for an extraordinary convening of the Central Committee, while Theodora Tsakri had already left.

At the same time, the Political Secretariat has decided to publish the financial disclosures of the presidential candidates in alphabetical order on the SYRIZA website.

  • Today, the Political Secretariat of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance met to advance the process regarding the nominations for the presidential election, as well as to publish the financial disclosures of the candidates, as stipulated by the decisions of the Central Committee.
  • Therefore, leaks regarding the financial disclosures of any candidate are meaningless, are entirely condemnable, and have no connection whatsoever to the Secretary of the Central Committee or to the Political Secretariat and the party’s bodies.

Any claims to the contrary aim to create artificial tension and do not reflect reality.

The act of sending a legal notice against the party’s bodies by the former president is unprecedented and is being returned as unacceptable.

  • It should be noted that in the Central Committee’s decision of September 21, 2024, the submission of financial disclosures is a requirement for all candidates, which will be made public on the SYRIZA-PS website. It emphasizes that “it is imperative to demonstrate in practice, not just in words, that neither our party nor our members have anything to hide.” Consequently, the submission of the necessary signatures, along with a copy of the financial disclosure, constitutes explicit consent for its publication on the website.

The Political Secretariat is convening an extraordinary meeting of the Central Committee on Saturday, October 12, 2024, following recent developments, to proceed in an orderly manner with the required processes for the election of a President.
