Stefanos Tsitsipas experienced his 10th loss in 14 matches against Daniil Medvedev in the fourth round of the Shanghai Masters. The Greek player was eliminated from the quarterfinals after losing 7-6(3), 6-3 in 1 hour and 51 minutes to the 28-year-old Russian, who will compete against Jannik Sinner for a spot in the semifinals.
Tsitsipas had only 18 winners and 34 unforced errors, while Medvedev recorded 29 winners with just 20 unforced errors. The first set was decided by the narrowest of margins, with the cooler-headed Russian closing it out in 65 minutes during a tiebreak.
In the second set, the Greek started strong with a break (1-0), reaching 2-0, but his opponent broke back in the fourth game and then led 5-3. Medvedev closed out the set with his serve.
Stefanos showed visible frustration in the second set, engaging in a heated dialogue with the umpire at the beginning. He will now return to Europe, set to play in Antwerp on October 17. A major goal for him is to qualify for the ATP Finals.
