An appeal to women to take advantage of the “Fofi Gennimata” breast cancer screening program was made by Eirini Agapidaki from the House Social Affairs Committee.
The deputy health minister said that she herself was also included in the program as the preventive examinations eidentified findings that are characterized as “suspicious” and require regular monitoring so that, if in the future they develop into malignancy, they can be detected immediately.
“And I am in the “Fofi” team, I have findings myself,” she told the parliamentary committee while speaking to reporters, she said that “I have a finding that is not malignant, but needs monitoring so that, if it develops into one, it can be detected in time.”
He added that “it’s not something I’m worried about, it’s very common and just needs monitoring,” to emphasize “I just said that to encourage women not to be afraid to get their mammograms. It’s a test that keeps us in check and allows us to prevent problems early.”
In her opening statement, the deputy minister said that through the Photi Genimata program, “over 430,000 digital mammograms and over 27,000 women with findings were detected early. All women 45-75 years old who have an AMKA regardless of their insurance capacity can easily, directly, and free of charge have a digital mammogram, ultrasound, clinical examination by a doctor.”
Speaking about the mastografia.gov.gr platform, he noted that women are given the opportunity to make appointments and have examinations.
