Thanks to coordinated actions by the Ioannina Security Subdivision and the Arta Security Department, a foreign national was arrested on Wednesday (23/10) for participating in a scam.

According to the police investigation, accomplices made repeated phone calls to Ioannina residents, posing as doctors. They requested money, claiming that a relative had been seriously injured in a car accident and urgently needed surgery. In some cases, they even pretended to be the supposed victim to make the story more convincing.

Using this deception, they managed to scam an elderly man, who handed over €4,000 in a bag outside his home, which was collected by the accused. After the victim reported the incident, authorities conducted a thorough investigation, tracking the perpetrator’s movements. Collaboration between police departments led to his arrest in Arta.

€3,900 was found in his possession, which was returned to the victim, along with the money bag. The arrested individual was brought before the Ioannina Prosecutor’s Office.
