A 19-year-old Greek man was arrested, while a 42-year-old and a 46-year-old are still wanted. This criminal gang had been targeting churches in various regions of Megalopolis and Messinia, amassing loot valued at over €40,000, according to the police.
The gang’s activity included both successful thefts and attempted burglaries, and their dismantling was achieved through an operation conducted by the Tripoli Security Department, in collaboration with the Kalamata Security Subdivision.
The investigation revealed that, between October 10, 2024, and November 3, 2024, the gang committed 22 thefts at churches in the municipalities of Megalopolis, Oichalia, and Trifylia, stealing items such as bells and cash, as well as one attempted burglary. They used rented vehicles to hinder the authorities’ investigation efforts.
The arrested individual will be brought before the relevant judicial authorities, while the police investigation continues to determine if the gang is connected to additional similar crimes.
