The unveiling of the memorial for the murdered policeman, Giorgios Lygeridis, took place today in an atmosphere of emotion. The monument is located at the site of the MAT headquarters in Goudi.
Present at the event was also the Minister of National Defence, Michalis Chrysochoidis, who in a post referred to the murdered policeman.
“Today we honor Giorgios Lygeridis, a worthy police officer who fought for the safety of his colleagues and gave his soul for his service. He passed away in this tragic way, but we will always remember him as an example of bravery and self-sacrifice. Immortal!” wrote the Minister of Civil Protection.

It is recalled that Giorgos Lygeridis died on December 7, 2023, when during a volleyball match between Olympiacos and Panathinaikos at the “Melina Mercouri” Indoor Gymnasium in Rentis, there were incidents between about 150 people and police forces. During the incidents, a naval flare was thrown, which seriously injured the policeman of the Sub-Directorate for Rehabilitation of Order, Giorgios Lygeridis, in his left thigh. The unfortunate policeman was transferred to the General State Hospital of Nice where he succumbed on December 27.
