The hottest year ever recorded on Earth is expected to be 2024, according to the United Nations World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
According to the organization, the global average temperature between January and September was about 1.54°C higher than the average temperature at the end of the 19th century.
In 2015, nearly 200 countries committed in Paris to limit the long-term rise in global temperatures, hoping to avoid some of the worst impacts of climate change.
However, the UN states that the 1.5°C target has not yet been breached, as it refers to a long-term average.
