Agrinio: 54-year-old man died in ICU a few days after being beaten by six people

A 41-year-old man has been identified for the violent incident - What the authorities are investigating

Newsroom November 15 01:20

The circumstances of the death of a 54-year-old man who yesterday at noon breathed his last while hospitalized at the Arta Hospital after being savagely beaten by six people last Wednesday in the center of Agrinio are being investigated by police officers of the Agrinio Security Sub-Directorate.

A 41-year-old man has been identified so far for his involvement in the violent incident, while authorities are looking for his five accomplices in the group beating with the 54-year-old victim.

Although the 54-year-old man died eight days after the murderous attack and was suffering from health problems, police are trying to determine whether his death was caused by the assailants’ blows.

For this reason, they are collecting footage from security cameras near the beating scene, while the forensic examination of the 54-year-old’s body is expected to shed light on the exact cause of his death.

At the same time, the victim’s brother, who reported the incident to the police, said it was a criminal act by known persons who beat the 54-year-old to death.

“This happened on the 6th but I came to know about it the day before yesterday. At the beginning when he was somewhat better they had him thrown in a ward and did not put him in the ICU.

As soon as they transferred him to the hospital in Arta the doctor called me and said ‘your brother arrived here clinically dead’.

I don’t know why they were fighting. The one they have caught went with 5 people and beat up my brother in the center of Agrinio.

I know one of them, he is in the Association of Panitoliko fans,” the 54-year-old’s brother tells protothema.gr.

He complains that last Wednesday an ambulance of EKAB received his brother from the pedestrian street of Karaiskaki and took him to the General Hospital of Agrinio without anyone notifying the police.

“He went and got an ambulance to take him to the hospital and they didn’t notify the police. Neither did the hospital notify the police.

Here, in Arta, he came in dead. They used the machines to hold him,” he described.

Finally, he talks about a murderous act that caused the death of his brother as the unfortunate man went to the hospital with severe head and kidney injuries from the blows.

“He had an issue with his liver but that was from the blows to his head. They gave him so many stitches, if you see how his head was you will understand.

The doctors told us it was from the blows. They broke his kidneys, they broke his liver, they had hit him in the head. We are talking about a criminal act,” he stresses to protothema.gr.
