Thessaloniki Metro: Opening date, free ticket period, and ticket prices

For how many days tickets won’t be required - Logos installed at stations

The long-awaited Thessaloniki Metro is finally here, with its official opening scheduled for Saturday, November 30. Everything is set, including the trains and station signage, which now display the new “M” logo.

Free Rides for the First Four Days

According to the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Christos Staikouras, passengers can ride the metro free of charge during its initial days of operation. Specifically, no tickets will be required on:

Starting from Wednesday, December 4, the ticket price will be set at €0.60 for a single ride during an initial six-month period. A bundle of 10+1 tickets will be available for €5.80.

Initial Operation with 13 Stations

The Thessaloniki Metro will open with 13 stations in service, marking a significant milestone for the city’s public transport network.

Final Preparations and Pet-Friendly Policy

Final touches, including the installation of station logos, were completed ahead of the launch. Additionally, the Thessaloniki Metro will be pet-friendly, allowing owners to transport their small dogs and cats in carriers or special bags.
