Apostolos Tzitzikostas has resigned from his post as the Regional Governor of Central Macedonia to take up the post of European Union Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism.
As the President of the Regional Council Theodoros Mitrakas told APE-MPE, the relevant act was completed by the Decentralized Administration of Macedonia and Thrace and Ms. Voula Patoulidou, who in the last local elections garnered the most votes in the largest regional unit, that of Thessaloniki, was notified to initiate the process of electing a new Regional Governor.
From today and within 15 days, Patoulidou will have to convene the 40 regional councilors of the majority party in the region in order to submit the nominations and to hold the vote.
If a candidate or candidates receives 21 votes in the first ballot, he or she will be elected as District Governor. If this does not happen, a second ballot will be held in which 21 votes are required for election. If a candidate still does not receive the required votes, a third vote will be held in which the first candidate to receive the required votes will be elected.
