However, today rain will persist in several areas, with meteorologist Theodoros Kolydas warning about storms from Samos to Rhodes.

Arnaoutoglou: Weather Improving, New Rain System Expected from 19/1
Sakis Arnaoutoglou notes that today the weather will improve, with rain confined to the southwestern, southern, and southeastern parts of the country.
On Thursday, new rain showers will affect western areas but will gradually subside. By Friday and Saturday, the weather will improve, though strong frost will persist in northern regions.
However, starting from 19/1 and peaking on 20/1, a new system of rain will sweep across the country from west to east, lasting two days. Afterward, it seems we’ll be heading into another phase of significant cold.
Significant Rainfall Amounts Recorded Yesterday in the South
Significant rainfall was recorded until the evening hours of Tuesday, January 14, particularly in parts of the Peloponnese, southern Ionian, Evia, and the westernmost areas of Crete. This is also reflected in the map below. The highest rainfall amount by 6:20 PM was recorded at the meteorological station in Kalentzi, Achaia, with 75.6 mm.
The map below shows the total rainfall amounts until 6:20 PM on Tuesday, January 14, as recorded by 520 meteorological stations of the National Observatory of Athens / meteo.gr’s automated network, highlighting the top eight measurements.
The bad weather continues, and several primary and secondary schools, by decision of local municipalities, will remain closed on Wednesday, January 15, due to frost. The affected schools include those in Florina, Amyntaio, Tempi, Meteora, the Nestos municipality, and the Mykis municipality.
Schools Closed in Florina and Amyntaio
By decision of Florina Mayor Vasilis Giannakis, all primary and secondary schools in the municipality of Florina will remain closed on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, due to the harsh weather conditions (snowfall and low temperatures) prevailing in the area. Additionally, the KDAP and KDAP MEA facilities in Florina will also remain closed.
Similarly, by decision of Amyntaio Mayor Ioannis Liasis, all primary and secondary schools in the municipality of Amyntaio will remain closed on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, due to adverse weather conditions.
Thessaly
The municipality of Sofades has decided to suspend operations at the Primary Education School (Rentina Elementary School) on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, due to severe weather phenomena making it dangerous for students to commute or remain on school grounds.
The municipality of Tempi announced the closure of primary schools and kindergartens in Aigani and Ambelakia on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.
In the municipality of Meteora, all mountainous schools will remain closed due to strong frost. Specifically, primary schools in Chrysomyla, Ambelia, Oxynia, Agiofyllo, Asproklisia, and Panagia, as well as secondary schools in Ambelia and Oxynia, will not operate.
Municipalities of Mykis and Nestos
By decision of the municipality of Mykis, in the Xanthi regional unit, all primary and secondary schools will remain closed on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.
Additionally, the municipality of Nestos announced the closure of primary schools in Lekani and Kechrokampos due to snowfall and frost.
Municipality of Lagadas
On Wednesday, schools in the municipal districts of Sohos and Lachanas, as well as the special school of Lofiskos, will remain closed in the municipality of Lagadas.
According to the municipality, these schools will remain closed because the intensity of the snowfall in these areas prevents the safe use of their outdoor spaces.
All other schools in the municipality, including KDAP facilities and municipal nurseries, will operate normally.
Central Greece
Schools in some municipalities in Central Greece will also remain closed tomorrow due to snow and low temperatures.
In the regional unit of Fthiotida, schools across all levels will remain closed in the municipalities of Domokos and Makrakomi by decision of their mayors.
In the municipality of Lamia, schools will operate normally except for the Gymnasium and Lyceum of Ypati, which will remain closed.
In the municipality of Distomo-Arachova-Antikyra, all schools in Arachova will remain closed. However, all other schools and kindergartens in the municipality will open at 10:00 AM.
In the regional unit of Fokida, the municipality of Delphi announced the suspension of operations for all primary and secondary schools, including kindergartens, in the districts of Gravia and Parnassos.
Municipality of Kalavryta
The suspension of all primary and secondary education schools, as well as the nursery of the Municipality of Kalavryta, for tomorrow, Wednesday, has been decided by the mayor of Kalavryta due to adverse weather conditions.
The decision was taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students, their companions, and educators, with the agreement of the Region of Western Greece, the primary and secondary education directorates of Achaia, and the school principals and supervisors.
Corinthia and Gortynia
The Municipality of Sikyonia in Corinthia announces that on Wednesday, January 15, all schools at every educational level in the municipal units of Feneos and Stymfalia will remain closed. In the municipal unit of Sikyonia, schools at all levels will remain open.
In the Municipality of Gortynia, Arcadia, the mayor, Efstathios Koulis, has decided that on Wednesday, January 15, all school units in the municipality will remain closed due to severe weather conditions.

Rain and local thunderstorms are expected, mainly in the Ionian Sea, the western mainland, the Peloponnese, and during the morning hours in the Eastern/Southeastern Aegean. Local snowfall is anticipated in the mountainous regions of the mainland, as well as in semi-mountainous areas of Central and Northern Greece. In Thrace, snowfall is expected even in lowland areas during the morning hours. Thunderstorms in parts of the Ionian Sea may be intense and could be accompanied by hail. Frost is expected in parts of the central and northern mainland.

- The rest of northern Greece: -6°C to 6°C
- Epirus: -6°C to 9°C
- Thessaly: -5°C to 6°C

In the Aegean, winds will generally blow from the north at 5-6 Beaufort, gradually weakening. In the Ionian, winds will blow from an easterly-southeasterly direction, with intensities reaching 6-7 Beaufort.
In Attica, cloudy skies are expected with a chance of localized showers in the northern areas. Winds will blow from the north at 3-4 Beaufort, gradually weakening. Temperatures will range from 7°C to 11°C, but in northern areas, they will be 3-4 degrees lower.
In Thessaloniki, cloudy skies are expected with a chance of localized showers in the evening. Winds will blow from the north-northwest at up to 3 Beaufort. Temperatures will range from 2°C to 6°C.

In western regions (Ionian, Epirus, western Peloponnese, and western Sterea Greece), clouds with localized rain and scattered thunderstorms are expected, gradually weakening from midday to the afternoon. In other parts of the country, clouds will bring light localized rain in Thessaly, the eastern mainland, Evia, and western Crete. In the mountains of Epirus, Sterea, and the Peloponnese, some light snowfall is possible until midday. Visibility will be limited in places during the morning and evening hours.
