Just over two days now remain until Donald Trump puts his hand on the Bible and is sworn in for a second time as the 47th President of the United States.

Preparations in the nation’s capital are feverish as both the confirmation of the presidential election results and the funeral of former President Carter have been held at the site in a matter of days.

The federal authorities though have considerable experience with such events have rarely held three such major events with a high level of security in such a short period.

An indoor venue will likely be used for Trump’s inauguration on Monday, according to sources cited by the ABC network. The reason is the polar temperatures in Washington, D.C. on Monday, which are forecast to be the lowest in 40 years.

Weather models say cold weather is coming and at the time of the swearing-in ceremony outdoors, it will probably be -15. According to CNN, the traditional parade may be held at Capital One Stadium. This will be only the second inauguration indoors since Ronald Reagan’s second term.

Security Measures

Compared to Donald Trump’s first inauguration in 2017, local authorities say the attendance will be fewer than the 1 million the first time. Nevertheless, the streets around the Capitol and the White House are closed and checked at least four times a day by special anti-terrorism teams with dogs.

A total of 48 kilometers of bars will be blocked from all access to that part of Washington, D.C., while more than 25,000 police officers have already been notified and have gone to the capital to deploy at key points.

The orders received by the security forces, which include National Guard echelons, is that no one is exempt from the protocol of checks that will be beyond thorough and time-consuming. Invitees of all ranks – even leaders of countries – have been informed in detail about the duration and procedure and have been asked to arrive in a specific order and at a specific time well before the ceremony begins. The initial schedule in the hands of the authorities in the American capital includes more than 250,000 people, which in itself creates an additional operational headache.

It should be noted that to date, Washington authorities have not cancelled any of the requests they have received from groups protesting in streets around the area during the inauguration.

Infrastructure in the city is also on alert, with hotels last week reporting that occupancy rates are at 70 percent, though they are expected to rise. However, this is down from the 92% recorded at Trump’s first inauguration.
