Trump from Davos: I love Europe but not the EU – End of the “green crap” and lignite is clean

Call for investment in the US: Come to produce with low taxes, otherwise...tariffs - I don't want war but justice with China - The war in Ukraine must end, ask Putin when

Newsroom January 23 10:32

Donald Trump is without a doubt one of the busiest people on the planet especially in the last week. In the three days since his inauguration he has signed – overturned more decisions of the previous presidency than anyone else in the political annals of the country. At the same time, he has laid the groundwork for his plan for the nation’s borders and the immigration issue, and has made clear that his priority on the economy will be to immediately reduce inflation and grow the U.S. economy through massive investment attraction.

Despite a very heavy schedule, Donald Trump did not turn down an invitation from what he has previously described as one of his most “favorite events” and spoke online but live at the annual economic forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Trump on economy: The U.S. will have the lowest taxes in the world

The US president made it clear that the economy and in particular inflation and very high prices within the US is an issue that he and his staff have already started working on but appeared reassuring as he noted with the huge investments, cuts in direct and corporate taxes that will take effect immediately the US economy will come back stronger than ever.

Specifically, Donald Trump made it clear that the corporate tax will drop from the current 21% to 15% if businesses manufacture their products within the US “making this country the strongest in the world with the lowest tax“. The US president stressed that already the investment climate within the last month has risen to record levels (he cited a 41% increase) and that this is just the beginning. He even made an open call to investors at the forum highlighting: “Come to the US and I guarantee you will have the lowest taxes in the world”.

Trump: I love Europe not the European Union

The US president was particularly critical once again in the last three days towards the European Union and its “incomprehensible practices” as he said, making clear however that he has great love and respect for the countries of the continent – individually. Donald Trump underlined that for the US the trade balance with the EU is completely unbalanced and if this does not change immediately it will result in economic sanctions being imposed on the Union.

For Trump again the automotive industry and agricultural products were a point of reference and he did not fail to lambast the very “slow institutions that put unnecessary bureaucratic obstacles to investment”. Trump sent a stern message to the European Union over the billion-dollar fines the institutions have imposed on US tech companies such as Meta (Facebook), Apple and Google, stressing “like it or not they are American companies and you need to think about it…”

Trump however made it clear that he will not impose tariffs or block the export of US LNG to the EU which has signed a bilateral exclusive energy cooperation agreement with the US with President Biden following the sanctions on Russia for invading Ukraine. Trump remarked meaningfully: “agreements are agreements and will be honoured in full”.

They are agreements that will be honored and respected.

Trump on energy: No more “green crap and lignite is clean”

Asked regarding his policies on energy given that he has already signed an executive order for an “energy emergency” in the country, Trump reiterated that the US now needs twice as much energy as it produces as investments in artificial intelligence are huge and have correspondingly large energy demands. He noted that oil and natural gas will be a pillar and he will personally give as many new mining licenses as possible and when asked about the risk of “energy inflation” he replied that the more we produce the lower prices will fall.

Donald Trump also made it clear that new large energy-intensive investments would receive their own permits to build factories to produce their own energy next to the basic infrastructure and would not have to go through the US electricity grid. In these infrastructure he said they would be able to use “any fuel they want even lignite which is clean and unaffected by anything”.

Donald Trump again called the Paris accord “a joke” and said his country has no reason to be in it. The US president also sent a message to OPEC calling for an immediate reduction in oil prices, calling the move imperative due to the war in Ukraine as well.

Trump: war in Ukraine must end – Ask Putin when – I don’t want war with China but justice

Referring to the war in Ukraine, Trump stressed that Volodymyr Zelensky wants it to end and that there will be immediate communication with the Russian side. Donald Trump made it clear that this war would not have started if he were president and argued that there is a significant chance that Russia will also understand that there must be a solution.

Trump revealed that he did not call Xi Jinping but it was a Chinese initiative, making it clear that he does not want war with Beijing but fairness in trade and economic terms. He called President Xi a “friend” and a “normal guy” and said there is every prospect of the US and China not being against each other but side by side.

Trump’s proposal on nuclear weapons was also important as he noted he had a discussion with Putin late in his first term about a plan to denuclearize the world to which the Russian president was positive. “If Russia says yes, so will China and the world will be a better and safer place,” he stressed.
