The sudden marriage of a Prince and a Vardinogianni: Behind the scenes

A whirlwind romance

Newsroom January 27 11:44

The sudden romance between Nikolaos, the second son of former King Constantine of Greece, and Chrysi Vardinogianni, the daughter of prominent businessman Giorgos Vardinogiannis and Agapi Politi, has taken the spotlight. Their relationship began just seven months ago, and now, they are set to walk down the aisle in early February.

According to sources, the couple will marry on February 7th in a private ceremony attended by no more than 60 guests. However, it remains unclear whether they will opt for a religious or civil wedding.

This rapid development has surprised even those close to the couple, who believed their romance, though public within Athens’ social circles, would not lead to marriage so quickly.

The Early Days of the Romance

Whispers of a budding romance started in early June when Nikolaos and Chrysi were seen together at private events and gatherings in Athens. They deliberately avoided public appearances to keep their relationship under wraps. By mid-summer, however, Chrysi introduced Nikolaos to her father during a brief cruise on the family yacht. Their relationship blossomed from there, culminating in their decision to live together by the end of the year.

Public acknowledgment of their relationship came in September 2024, when they attended a photography exhibition at the Acropolis Museum. This was followed by Chrysi’s discreet presence at the wedding of Nikolaos’s sister, Theodora, later that month. By this point, their romance was no longer a secret.

A Shared History of High-Profile Relationships

Both Nikolaos and Chrysi bring their own unique experiences to this union. Nikolaos was married for 14 years to Tatiana Blatnik, a relationship that ended in divorce in early 2024. Chrysi, too, has had a high-profile past, including a previous marriage to singer Nino and a long-term relationship with actor Konstantinos Markoulakis.

Nikolaos’s divorce, though rumored for years, became official only after the death of his father, former King Constantine, as the couple wished to avoid adding stress to the late king’s final years.

A Marriage That Defies Convention

Nikolaos and Chrysi represent a blend of tradition and modernity. While rooted in the worlds of royalty and powerful business dynasties, they both have unconventional streaks. Nikolaos has long eschewed formalities, once remarking, “I don’t expect anyone to call me ‘Your Highness.’ I simply introduce myself as Nikolaos.” Similarly, Chrysi is described as a strong and independent personality, shaped by both her entrepreneurial family background and her life experiences.

Their impending wedding signals a new chapter for both, blending Greece’s royal past with one of its most influential business families. Despite the secrecy and speed of their engagement, it is clear their relationship has deep roots and mutual respect.
