Heraklion: Irreversible damage to 3-year-old following abuse – “We did everything we could”

There were both recent and older lesions on the child's skin and signs of contact burns, the deputy director of PAGNI said

Newsroom January 28 12:50

A “very severe clinical picture” of 3-year-old Angelos, the young boy who was brutally abused by his mother and stepfather in Heraklion, was mentioned this morning by the deputy director of the Pagni hospital, Stelios Kteniadakis.

“The next 24 hours are very important for the development of his health,” Kteniadakis added, speaking to SKAI.

According to him, all the doctors who examined and saw the child said “We have never seen anything like this before” regarding his injuries from the abuse he suffered.

The PAGNI deputy director also confirmed that “there were both recent and past lesions on the child’s skin and signs of contact burns.”

As for whether anyone in the family has shown interest in the boy, Kteniadakis said “We have been in contact with the social service and we have been informed that the grandmother – we don’t know from which side – will travel to Crete.”

“The night was calm, we had no change in substance. The child remains in a difficult condition, intubated with increased intracranial pressure and that is what worries us. Everything that could be given to reduce this pressure has not worked,” PAGNI’s commander, Giorgios Chalkiadakis, said earlier today.
