Ankara provocative on the so-called “Independence Day of the Turks of Western Thrace”

Statements to "X" by the Turkish Ministries of National Defence and Foreign Affairs, which raise a "minority" issue

Newsroom January 29 07:43

With an inflammatory post on the “anniversary” of the Thrace events of January 29 (1988 and 1990), the Turkish Ministry of Defense is raising a “minority” issue trying to present the day as “National Resistance and Solidarity Day of the Turks of Western Thrace.”

It is noteworthy that on the post of the official account of the Ministry of Defense on X, a photo of Sadik has been published with the flag of the so-called “Autonomous Government of Western Thrace” in the background, thus wanting to encourage the extreme voices of the Muslim minority.

It should be reminded that the Muslim minority in Thrace is internationally recognized as a religious minority and not an ethnic like i.e. the indigenous ethnic Greek minority of Northern Epirus in the south of Albania.

A post on the “anniversary” was also made by the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
