Despite now playing in Saudi Arabia and having left European football a few years ago, Ronaldo remains a global football icon, as evident from the enthusiastic response of New Yorkers to his 40th birthday celebrations.
A Spectacular Tribute in Times Square
Fans of Cristiano Ronaldo gathered in New York’s iconic Times Square to witness the unveiling of a statue dedicated to him, decorated in the colors of the Portuguese national team. The event was a key part of the birthday celebrations for the legendary footballer.
At 40, Ronaldo continues to impress with his performances. He currently leads the Saudi Arabian league in scoring, with 15 goals for Al Nassr, and recently netted two more against Al Wasl, bringing his career tally to 923 goals.
Global Recognition for Ronaldo
Tributes to Ronaldo have poured in from all over the world, but one of the most remarkable was the unveiling of his bronze statue in New York. The crowd erupted into loud chants of “Siuuu”, his signature celebration, which has become a symbol of his career.
The stunning 3.6-meter (12-foot) bronze statue was sculpted by Italian artist Sergio Furnari, who encouraged Ronaldo’s fans to gather and attempt to set a world record for the largest group performing the “Siu” celebration simultaneously.
