It is finally confirmed that Nikolaos De Gres and Chrysi Vardinogianni are an unconventional couple who chose to marry in a way quite different from what we typically call a “princely” or “royal” wedding.
Only forty-five guests will be present at the Church of Saint Nicholas Ragkava in Plaka, where the son of former King Constantine and the daughter of Giorgos Vardinogiannis and Agapi Politi will officially formalize their much-discussed relationship in front of God and people.
Of course, their families and a few very close friends will be present, and aside from the princesses Sofia and Irene (the groom’s aunts) and his siblings, very few high-profile royal arrivals are expected from Europe, which is completely different from the multitude of royals who attended his sister Theodora’s wedding.
The crowns used in the ceremony will perhaps be the most royal element of the event, during which Giorgos Vardinogiannis will exchange rings for the couple, and the groom’s brother will place the crowns.
The ceremony will take place at 18:00 with the expected security measures, as the couple does not desire much publicity, aiming to overlook the noise caused initially by the revelation of their relationship and then the official announcement by the former royal family regarding their wedding.
And while some might have expected the first, as the romance was an open secret in high society circles in recent months, the wedding came as a bombshell, after only seven months of relationship between the second son of former King Constantine and the daughter of a well-known businessman.
The “secret” party
However, what has caused particular surprise and been commented on in various ways is that until this afternoon, none of the 75 total guests at the wedding reception will know where it will take place.
They will be notified by phone, and according to reports, they will not receive an SMS, but rather a phone call, which is also a sign of the privacy the newlywed couple wants to surround the event with.
This is something that probably happens for the first time at a wedding of a member of the former royal family of Greece, but it clearly reflects how Nikolaos De Gres and Chrysi Vardinogianni currently see themselves. Two extroverted characters who never felt trapped by titles or “heavy” surnames and chose to do what they want, like Nikolaos who worked in the news department at FOX News under a pseudonym, while his beloved chose the music industry for a while.
The secrecy surrounding the location of the wedding reception even puzzled their own family members, who, even if they knew the place, would never have revealed it, as the couple desires maximum privacy during the happiest moment of their lives.
The dinner at “Great Britain” and the pre-wedding party at Koukaki
Last night, the pre-wedding party took place at the “Vulkanizer” restaurant in Koukaki, while a dinner preceded it at the “Great Britain” hotel, where the couple’s close relatives and royals like Princess Benedikte of Denmark and her daughter Alexandra were present.
Watch videos and photos from the dinner at the Great Britain.
