Shock in the Dodecanese: 13-year-old girl tried to poison her mother with the help of her 15-year-old boyfriend

She laced her mother’s tea with rat poison; when the plan failed, she acquired a knife—How the mother uncovered the plot, what police found, and the arrests made—The chilling incident took place on a remote island in the Dodecanese

Newsroom February 15 11:15

A shocking and disturbing case has unfolded on a remote island in the Dodecanese, where a 13-year-old girl and her 15-year-old boyfriend have been arrested and charged with attempted murder. Their intended victim was the girl’s own mother, according to Dimokratiki.

The plan allegedly involved poisoning the mother with food in an effort to overcome what the teens believed were obstacles created by the girl’s parents to their romantic relationship.

The scheme was exposed when the mother reported to authorities that she had found messages and evidence indicating her daughter, under the influence of her boyfriend, was plotting to kill her.

The mother’s report triggered an in-depth investigation, which uncovered shocking details about the relationship between the two teens, the psychological influence the boy had on the girl, and the chain of events that ultimately prevented the crime.

From Innocent Friendship to Dangerous Influence

The relationship between the two teens began in September 2024, and it quickly escalated to a point that raised alarms for the girl’s parents.

Her behavior changed drastically: she started coming home late without informing them, smoking, drinking energy drinks, responding aggressively to any parental concerns, claiming her freedom to do whatever she wanted, skipping school, quitting her tutoring sessions, and abandoning the allergy medication she had been prescribed by doctors.

Concerned by this sudden transformation and her obsession with the relationship, the parents sought the help of a psychologist.

The psychologist found that the 13-year-old was under intense influence from her 15-year-old boyfriend, who appeared to have total control over her actions.

When the mother, increasingly worried about her daughter’s behavior, checked her social media conversations, she stumbled upon a chilling discovery: messages in which the 15-year-old encouraged the girl to harm her mother.

The Murder Plot

According to the investigation, the girl, guided by her boyfriend, attempted to poison her mother by adding rat poison to sweet treats and tea she offered to her. However, the mother did not consume the food and soon realized something was wrong. The situation escalated when the mother discovered a kitchen knife in her daughter’s room—one she didn’t recognize. Additionally, online chats revealed that the 15-year-old had been pressuring the 13-year-old to follow through with the plan, threatening her when she expressed doubts.

Arrests and Police Intervention

On the day the two teens were arrested, they had spent time together at the girl’s home, with the 15-year-old holding a tube containing an unknown substance. Their messages revealed that they were waiting for the father to leave the house so they could “take care of” the mother.

Frightened by the discoveries, the mother immediately reported the incident to the authorities. Police launched an investigation, confiscated the knife and the chat messages, and filed charges of attempted murder in connection with domestic violence and weapon offenses.

During questioning, the 13-year-old confessed that she had placed rat poison in her mother’s food and had taken the knife from her boyfriend’s house to use against her mother.

The case has now been referred to the Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office for further legal action.

Experts Weigh In: The Importance of Monitoring Teen Relationships

This case has shocked many, with experts stressing the importance of parents closely monitoring adolescent relationships and providing psychological support to children who show sudden behavioral changes.

The incident raises crucial questions about the boundaries of parental intervention, psychological manipulation between teens, and the dark side of online communication, which can be used as a vehicle for dangerous ideas and actions.
