Strike on 28 February 2025: Who’s participating and what to expect for transport services

The Executive Committee of the GSEE decided to declare a 24-hour nationwide strike on Friday, 28/2, two years after the tragedy of Tempi

Newsroom February 20 04:59

A strike on February 28, the two-year anniversary of the Tebon accident, has been called by the GSEE and ADEDY.

The Executive Committee of the GSEE decided to declare a 24-hour Panhellenic strike on Friday, 28/2, two years after the tragedy of Tempi, in order to:

– The rule of law should finally work
– Let there be no cover-up or set-off
– That those responsible for the tragedy are punished, no matter how high up they are
– To shield transport, land, air and sea, in order to protect society as a whole and to prevent any more victims.

We join our forces in the glorious struggle of the Association of the relatives of the victims of Tempi and assist in their efforts. For justice. For every citizen to reach their destination safely. For institutions to function, and for public goods to be fortified. The GSEE and its organizations will participate in the mobilizations that the Association will announce that day throughout the country, calling on every worker and employee to demonstrate the achievement of these common goals.”

Finally, as stated in a previous announcement by the GSEE, “Our colleagues in public transport are called upon to work (even as strikers) to facilitate the arrival of citizens at the sites of the mobilizations.

In a statement, ADEDY calls on the Federations, the N.T., the Primary Unions, and all workers “to fight for the success of the strike, so that there is no cover-up of the crime, its causes and perpetrators, and justice is done.”

The statement:

“The General Council of the A.D.E.D.Y. at its meeting yesterday, decided, unanimously, to hold a 24-hour General National Strike on February 28, the date that marks two years since the Tempi crime. We call on the Federations, the N.T. of the A.D.E.D.Y., the Primary Unions, and all workers to fight for the success of the strike, so that there is no cover-up of the crime, its cause,s and perpetrators and that JUSTICE is done.

Ships tied up in ports

It is noted that ships of all categories will remain tied up on 28 February. The Panhellenic Seamen’s Federation (PNO), at its Executive Committee meeting, also decided to strike on the same date.

In particular, they decided:

– The declaration of a 24-hour nationwide strike in all categories of ships on 28 February, Friday from 00.01 hours to 24.00 hours.
– The dispatch of outgoing letters and a detailed press release within the next few days, which will be placed on the tragic accident in Tempe.
– But also on the issues that remain open for the safety of maritime cabotage.

What will be done about the transport?

As for the rest of the Public Transport (buses, trolleybuses, metro, subway, suburban railways), we will have a clear picture in the coming days, with the most likely scenario involving the participation of the workers in the strike, without excluding the possibility of special provisions for citizens who want to travel to the center of Athens.
