Railway engineers against Konstantopoulou: “Your remarks about our deceased colleague are despicable and vile”

The president of Plevsi Eleftherias (Freedom Sailing), Zoe Konstantopoulou, stated in parliament that "there was an illegal substance carried by the commercial train, whose train driver was a volunteer in the office of Kyriakos Mitsotakis"

Newsroom February 21 08:45

The Railway Engineers’ Alliance has condemned Konstantopoulou’s comments, calling them “despicable and vile” attacks on train drivers, following her claim that one of the victims in the tragic Tempi train crash was a volunteer at the office of the Greek prime minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

In their statement, the train drivers emphasize that Konstantopoulou has “far surpassed all limits,” criticizing her “obsession,” which they describe as small-minded.

Konstantopoulou is accused of “slandering, defaming, and mocking the memory of train drivers for political gain.” The statement also highlights that she has made these attacks “without any evidence,” specifically targeting the railway workers and the railway sector itself.

The Train Drivers’ Alliance demands an official cease and desist letter be sent to Konstantopoulou, accusing her of exploiting the tragedy for publicity and continuing to play with the memory of the young people who lost their lives in the accident.

“Ms. Konstantopoulou, you are ‘persona non grata’ for the railway engineers,” the statement concludes.

Full Statement from the railway engineers’ Alliance:

“Once again, as railway engineers, we are enduring a despicable and vile attack from Ms. Konstantopoulou!

We all understand that this person has far exceeded all limits. Her obsession is a mild term for her petty attitude.

She slanders and mocks the memory of the railway engineers for the sake of votes!

Once again, without ANY evidence, she attacks the railway engineers and, by extension, the Railway.

The response from the Union MUST be Immediate!

We have seen many repeated cease and desist letters, which the railway engineers have paid dearly for.

Finally, take action against this specific individual, who, for the sake of publicity and in combination with her political irrelevance, continues to ‘play’ with the memory of young lives lost!

As the Alliance of Railway Engineers, WE DO NOT ALLOW THIS!

The railway engineers of the commercial train on 28/2/2023, that tragic day for the railway, have nothing to prove to anyone, because they are PROFESSIONALS.

Dimitris and Spyros were Colleagues who honored the profession, and we will always remember them with love.

Ms. Konstantopoulou, you are ‘persona non grata’ for the Train Drivers!”

Zoe Konstantopoulou’s Comments on the Deceased Railway Engineers:

Earlier on Friday, during a debate in parliament, Zoe Konstantopoulou attempted to link the alleged illegal cargo carried by the commercial train, with the claim that the deceased train driver had been a volunteer in the office of Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

“There was an illegal substance carried by the commercial train, whose train driver was a volunteer in Mitsotakis’ office,” she stated.

Her remarks caused an immediate backlash from the government spokesperson, Pavlos Marinakis, who addressed her by saying, “Your vulgarity has no limits.”

“Once again today, you have disrespected and insulted the memory of a deceased person. You throw mud at the train driver, saying he was a volunteer in the prime minister’s office. You have nothing else to say. You even weigh the dead. Aren’t you ashamed? Don’t you realize that behind this person is a family?” Marinakis added.
