The international tender for the concession of exploration and exploitation rights hydrocarbons in the marine areas “A2” and “South of the Peloponnese”, in the southern Ionian Sea area by decision of the Minister of Environment and Energy Theodoros Skylakakis.
This initiative follows the acceptance by the Ministry of Environment and Energy of the relevant expression of interest for the above areas by the companies Chevron and HELLENiQ Energy.
As part of the Decision, the Minister of Environment and Energy approves the tender notice issued by the Hellenic Hydrocarbons and Energy Resources Management Company (Hellenic Hydrocarbons and Energy Resources Management Company), which is published, initially in the Official Gazette and subsequently in the Official Journal of the European Union. The period for submission of tenders will last 90 days from the date of publication of the notice in the Official Journal of the European Union.
It is noted that the tender process has already started, as from 23/1 Mr. Skylakakis has signed a Decision, which specifies the exact boundaries of the marine areas for which the said right to explore and exploit hydrocarbons is granted.
The Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr. Thodoros Skylakakis, said on the occasion of the announcement of the tender: “This is a very important development in the direction of our country’s energy security, as it strengthens the effort to explore the existence of significant natural gas deposits, which is the transitional fuel for the energy transition, a field where Greece is a pioneer. Moreover, the interest of giants in the hydrocarbon sector – first ExxonMobil and now Chevron – demonstrates the fact that our country is becoming an attractive destination for significant, energy investments.”
