The “mastermind” of the criminal drug trafficking organisation in Heraklion is taken to prison

A total of 12 defendants have been remanded in custody – The members of the organization used code words to communicate, with the word "beer" referring to cocaine

Newsroom February 25 05:20

New developments have emerged in the case of the criminal organization trafficking cocaine, as all six defendants who gave their statements today were deemed to be remanded in custody, including the “mastermind” of the group, following a lengthy process before the Investigating Judge in Heraklion. This brings the total number of those in custody to 12, with the first depositions of the defendants taking place yesterday and today.

According to neakriti.gr, after their testimonies, the judicial authorities decided to keep all the involved parties in temporary detention, continuing the judicial investigation that reveals a well-organized drug trafficking network.

The case uncovers a criminal organization with a strict structure, where the 28-year-old, who is alleged to be the leader, played a central role, managing the network from Peristeri, Attica. The organization operated with a clear division of responsibilities, from the transportation and storage of drugs to managing financial transactions.

According to the case file, the members of the organization used code words to communicate, with the word “beer” referring to cocaine and numerical codes corresponding to drug quantities.

The police had been monitoring the criminal organization for months, recording conversations and transactions that reveal the extent of the network’s operations.

Investigations show that the organization was not limited to drug trafficking but also had a financial support system for its members in prison. It took care of funding their families, and even ensured transportation for the traffickers to maintain the operation’s continuity.

It should be noted that yesterday, six more defendants were remanded in custody, bringing the total number of detained members of the network to 12.

Three detainees were released as they were considered to be users. The defense lawyers of the defendants pointed out that the case contains extensive evidence that must be carefully evaluated, emphasizing the need for individualization of the charges for each involved person.
