Hollywood stars have paid tribute to Gene Hackman, who was found dead with his wife, Betsy Arakawa, and their dog on Wednesday, at their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
The tragic news of the death of the Oscar-winning actor has shocked the entertainment world and his fans, as the cause of death for the 95-year-old actor, his wife, and their dog remains unclear.
Among those paying tribute to Hackman is Tom Hanks, who posted a photo of the late actor on his Instagram account on Thursday, February 27th. The two-time Oscar-winning actor wrote in the caption: “There was never a ‘Gene Hackman type.’ There was only Gene Hackman.”
The investigation into the cause of death for the legendary Hollywood actor and his wife is still ongoing. Authorities have deemed their deaths “suspicious.” According to the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office, the bodies of the 95-year-old actor and his 65-year-old wife were found in different rooms of their home, along with one of their dogs.
At the same time, a call made by the worker who first found the couple’s lifeless bodies was released. In the phone conversation, the man described seeing the actor’s wife near a window and, when asked if the couple was still breathing, responded with visible distress in his voice: “No, no, no. They’re not moving. Send someone here quickly.”
So far, the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths of Hackman and Arakawa remain unclear, and authorities continue to examine the data. The sheriff’s office reported Thursday afternoon that the cause of death has not yet been determined, and initial investigations did not show signs of foul play. The autopsy found no external injuries on either victim.

Authorities have ordered toxicology tests and carbon monoxide checks, with the results still pending. However, the Santa Fe Fire Department found no signs of a carbon monoxide leak or poisoning, and New Mexico Gas Co. confirmed that there were no issues with the pipes inside or outside the home.
