Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had a telephone conversation with UK Prime Minister Kir Starmer. The two leaders’ conversation focused on developments in Ukraine.
According to a statement by the Turkish Presidency’s Communication Directorate, Tayyip Erdogan said Turkey is making efforts to ensure that the war between Russia and Ukraine ends as soon as possible with a just and lasting peace.
President Erdogan also noted that Ankara is ready to fulfill its responsibilities, such as hosting peace talks, as it has done so far.
During the talks, issues related to bilateral relations between Turkey and the UK, as well as regional and global issues were also raised.
Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will represent President Erdogan at the conference on Ukraine and European security to be held tomorrow, March 2, in London.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will meet with British Prime Minister Kir Starmers today, Starmers office said, ahead of a wider conference of European leaders to be held in London tomorrow.
