The visit aims to conduct on-site inspections of Byzantine monuments in Jerusalem and Ramallah, which require urgent protection and restoration measures. The preservation of these cultural treasures, managed by the Patriarchate of Jerusalem, is a top priority.
As part of her visit, Mendoni will meet with His Beatitude, Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem, and will hold discussions with Israeli Minister of Culture and Sports Makhlouf “Miki” Zohar to strengthen cultural cooperation between Greece and Israel. In Ramallah, she will also meet with Palestinian Ministers of Tourism and Antiquities Hani Al-Hayek and Culture Imad Hamdan, as well as Mayor Issa Kassis.
Mendoni’s itinerary includes visits to the Arafat Museum and the archaeological site of Saint Stephen’s Monastery (Khirbet al-Tireh) in Ramallah. In Jerusalem, she will attend a Divine Liturgy at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and lay a wreath at the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial.
