The United Arab Emirates has reportedly informed the United States and other Western allies that it is considering participating in a multinational naval mission aimed at restoring normal Hormuz Strait, a key passage for the global energy market.

According to a report in the Financial Times, citing sources with knowledge of the relevant consultations, the initiative is part of international efforts to ensure unhindered navigation at a time of heightened geopolitical tension in the Middle East.

These developments have affected the flow of oil and gas, intensifying the need to strengthen security in this particular maritime artery.

The United Arab Emirates has told allies it would join a multinational maritime task force aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz, the Financial Times reports.

Aim to protect navigation and energy supply

The Sea Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important transit points internationally, as a large proportion of the world’s oil exports pass through it. The possible formation of a multinational force aims to ensure the safe passage of commercial ships and tankers, contributing to the stability of energy flows.

However, according to Reuters, the report has so far not been independently confirmed.
