Taxi crashes into a pole on Piraeus: Driver dead – “It was speeding without braking, something must have happened,” Says eyewitness

A serious traffic accident took place on Tuesday afternoon (4/3) on Piraeus Street, in the direction of Athens.

A taxi, under unknown circumstances, veered off course and crashed into a pole.

According to initial reports, the 64-year-old taxi driver has died, while the 61-year-old female passenger was injured and has already been transported to NIMTS hospital.

Firefighters and paramedics rushed to the scene, while Traffic Police have taken over the investigation into the causes of the accident.

An eyewitness described the accident:
“Suddenly, I saw a taxi on the opposite side speeding on the median strip and crashing into a pole. I stopped a little further down, and as I turned back, I saw an ambulance passing by, probably from a nursing home, as far as we could tell. It stopped, took the passenger—she had been thrown into the windshield. They checked the driver’s pulse, but he had none, and they left. Then the Fire Department and paramedics arrived immediately. It was speeding without braking, something must have happened to him.”
