Trump increases tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum to 50% and pressures again: Become the 51st State of the U.S.

Donald Trump has raised tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from Canada to 50% and is once again pushing for Canada to become the 51st U.S. state

Newsroom March 11 05:14

In a recent social media post, Trump called on Canadians to request their own statehood, highlighting that the tariffs would disappear and their taxes would be significantly reduced.

The Canadian move to impose tariffs on electricity exports to U.S. Midwestern states, among others, prompted a strong response from the White House and the U.S. President.

Trump announced in a lengthy statement that an additional 25% tariff on steel and iron imports from Canada would be immediately imposed. This new tariff will take effect tomorrow, adding to the 25% tariff already planned and signed into law, though temporarily “paused” until April 2nd.

With the 50% tariffs on steel and iron, Canada now faces the highest U.S. tariffs on these products globally. Despite ongoing market backlash, it is clear that the Oval Office has no intention of backing down on this issue.

In the same message, Trump made a plea to Canadians, urging them to ask for statehood, claiming that becoming the 51st state would eliminate tariffs and drastically lower their national taxes. Trump also mentioned that with the removal of “artificial borders,” Canada would join the leading country and no longer face any defense or military issues. He also stated that Canada wouldn’t have to eliminate its national anthem, but emphasized that it would represent the new state.
