A 4.4 magnitude earthquake was recorded at one twenty-five minutes past one in the night, Italy time, in the greater Naples area. The earthquake was centered in the area of Pozzuoli and was felt throughout the city of Naples.

Many residents were frightened out of their homes and fire brigade forces were immediately mobilized to determine if there were any serious injuries and property damage.

In Via Diomede Carafa, part of the attic and plaster in a house collapsed, trapping one person. The fire brigade pulled the person from the rubble. According to Italian media, he had suffered minor injuries.

Plaster has fallen off apartment buildings, especially in the historic centre of Naples.
