A man from Patras fell victim to online fraud, transferring €51,271 to purchase a car that he never received.
It all started when the victim came across an ad on a website posted by the fraudster, which caught his interest. After they made contact, the scammer directed him to a fake link designed to mimic the original website and managed to convince him to transfer the money to a foreign bank account.
The car was never delivered, and the man soon realized he had been scammed. He then reported the incident to authorities, according to pelop.gr.
The Patras Cybercrime and Criminal Investigation Department has filed a case against an unknown perpetrator for fraud, and investigations are ongoing to identify the suspect.
Authorities are urging citizens to be cautious of suspicious online ads and transactions with unknown sellers.
