The concept of “wonderkid” takes shape in the form of Konstantinos Karetsas.
The 17-year-old star, who became the subject of a battle between the Hellenic Football Federation (EPO) and national coach Ivan Jovanović to wear Greece’s jersey rather than Belgium’s, came on as a substitute at halftime during the Greek National Team’s match against Scotland last night at “G. Karaiskakis” Stadium. In just a few minutes, the whole of Greece was buzzing.
As soon as he entered the game, he changed the entire dynamic of Ivan Jovanović’s team, with the Scots retreating into their own box and ultimately feeling lucky that they didn’t concede a goal, leaving Athens with a 0-1 score.
Dribbles, passes, individual moves, magical touches, and much more came from Karetsas during his (approximately) 45 minutes on the field. Now, everyone is waiting to see him again in a few days in Glasgow for the return match against Scotland in the Nations League play-offs.
