At least 694 people have been killed and 1,670 injured in the powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar on Friday, according to the latest toll released by the ruling junta, AFP reports.
Eight more deaths have been reported in neighboring Thailand, where a skyscraper collapsed due to the quake.
Myanmar was shaken at 14:20 local time (08:20 GMT) by a 7.7-magnitude earthquake centered 16 kilometers northwest of the city of Sagaing, originating from a shallow depth of just 10 kilometers. Minutes later, a 6.7-magnitude aftershock followed, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
