Video: The moment of the explosion outside the Hellenic Train offices – Photo of the backpack

The device was placed on a pillar - A phone call had preceded the explosion - Minor damage caused by the explosion

Newsroom April 12 07:37

Video of the moment of the explosion outside the offices of Hellenic Train on Syngrou Avenue is brought to light by protothema.gr.

In the visual material the big flash was recorded exactly at the moment when the explosive device was activated, which left behind minor material damage.

At the same time, a photographic document of the backpack with the explosive device in it comes to light, moments before the big explosion.

As it turns out, it was tied to a pillar outside the Hellenic Train offices, while it was padlocked.

In a statement, Hellenic Train “confirms that earlier this evening an explosion occurred very close to its headquarters on Syggrou Avenue. The incident caused limited material damage, without any injuries – neither among the company’s employees nor among passing citizens. A warning call had been made to the ESIEA offices and the competent authorities were immediately mobilized, taking all necessary actions. Hellenic Train cooperated with the authorities from the very beginning. At the same time, it is taking all necessary measures to safeguard the safety of its employees. Our company unequivocally condemns all forms of violence and tensions that trigger a climate of toxicity that undermines all progress. This way of expression has no place in society. We will continue to courageously defend dialogue, cooperation, solidarity and justice.”

The Ministry of Infrastructure also condemned the attack.

More specifically, the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Dimas, stated: “The bombing that took place today at the offices of Hellenic Train is an absolutely condemnable act. It is a criminal act that endangered the lives of people, employees and passers-by, in a central location in Athens and during peak traffic hours. Nothing justifies terrorism, no act of violence brings justice. The authorities and the judiciary now have the floor.”

The Deputy Minister of Transport, Konstantinos Kyranakis, stated: “Today’s attack on the headquarters of Hellenic Train is an act of violence that cannot and should not have a place in a democratic society. We condemn it. The path to Justice and immediate accountability does not pass through the terrorism of an explosive device that targeted ordinary citizens and workers.”
