With sunshine returning and the temperature rising, the weather will roll through Holy Week, with forecasters calling for a smooth Easter with spring-like temperatures that will almost touch summer.
“No significant change in the weather pattern, although somewhat more severe weather will be seen in the west and north on Tuesday and Friday. Temperatures will remain above normal and winds will not exceed 5-6 Beaufort in most seas,” Thodoris Kolydas said in a post.
According to ANT1’s meteorologist, Tassos Arniakos, the Holy Week is entering a spring-like setting, with sunshine and high temperatures prevailing from Monday to Tuesday. In fact, the high point comes on M. Wednesday with the mercury reaching and exceeding 26 degrees Celsius. On M. Friday, clear weather is expected with local showers in the west and north. On Easter Saturday and Easter Sunday the conditions will be ideal for the celebration of the Resurrection and the spitting of the obelisk.
With clear weather and high temperatures the Holy Week will pass, according to the forecast of Giannis Kallianos, with the scenery until Easter Sunday resembling real spring.
Down to -2°C minimum temperature on Sunday
Negative values were recorded in areas of Macedonia and Thrace as well as in high altitude areas of the rest of the country. The table below shows the 8 stations of the meteo.gr / National Observatory of Athens network that recorded the lowest minima on the morning of Sunday 13/04. As shown in it, the temperature in Fort Nefrokopi dropped to -2.6 °C, followed by Didymoteicho (-1.3 °C) and Ptolemaida (-1.1 °C).
Today’s weather
Cloudy skies are expected, with the exception of the southern parts of the country where it will be sunny with intermittent clouds. There is a chance of sporadic, intermittent rain in the west and north.
The temperature in Macedonia and Thrace will range from 5 to 20 degrees Celsius, in Thessaly from 8 to 23, in Epirus from 7 to 22, in Sterea and Peloponnese from 6 to 23, in the Ionian islands from 12 to 20, in the North and East Aegean islands from 4 to 17, in the Cyclades and Dodecanese from 6 to 19, and in Crete from 5 to 22 degrees Celsius.
Winds in the North Aegean will blow from the east from 2 to 4 Beaufort. In the Central Aegean the winds will initially blow from variable directions from 2 to 4 Beaufort but from the afternoon they will become northerly of the same intensity. In the Dodecanese, winds will blow from the northwest at 3 to 5 Beaufort. In the rest of the South Aegean Sea the winds will blow from variable directions up to 3 Beaufort. In the Ionian Sea the winds will blow from southerly directions 2 to 4 Beaufort.
In Attica clouds are expected from time to time. Winds will blow from variable directions up to 3 Beaufort. The temperature in the center of Athens will range from 12 to 21 degrees Celsius.
In the prefecture of Thessaloniki clouds are expected. There is a slight possibility of light and occasional rain in places after noon. Winds will blow from eastern to southern directions up to 3 Beaufort. The temperature in the center of Thessaloniki will range from 12 to 18 degrees Celsius.
The weather on Tuesday (15/04)
In the Ionian Sea and the mainland clouds, partly cloudy with local rain mainly in the west, central and northern parts (except Thrace). In the rest of the country, generally clear weather with sparse clouds in places more dense. Visibility will be locally limited in the northern mainland in the evening hours. Meteorological conditions favour the transport of African dust.
Winds will blow in the west east southeast 3 to 5 and in the Ionian Sea 6 Beaufort. In the east will blow from northern directions 3 to 4 and in the Aegean Sea locally 5 Beaufort.
The temperature will not change significantly. It will reach 19 to 21 and locally 22 degrees Celsius.
The weather on Wednesday (16/04)
In the west a few local clouds that will gradually increase and late in the evening in the northwest there will be light showers. In the rest of the country almost clear with a few occasional clouds in the continental areas in the morning hours, so in Thessaly it may rain locally and from the afternoon thin clouds. Visibility will be locally limited in the northern mainland in the morning hours. Meteorological conditions favour the transport of African dust.
Winds in the west will blow east southeast 4 to 5 and in the Ionian Sea 6 to 7 Beaufort. In the east will blow from northern directions 3 to 4 and locally in the Aegean Sea 5 Beaufort.
The temperature will rise slightly.
The weather on Thursday (17/04)
Scattered and occasionally thicker clouds with local showers mainly in the west. Isolated thunderstorms are likely in the Ionian Sea in the evening. Meteorological conditions favour the transport of African dust.
Winds in the west will blow east southeast 4 to 6 and in the Ionian Sea locally 7 to 8 Beaufort, in the evening they will turn to south southwest and weaken. In the east it will blow east northeast 3 to 5 Beaufort.
The temperature will rise slightly further and will be above normal.
The weather on Good Friday (18/04)
A few clouds are forecast throughout the country, partly increasing in the morning hours, with local rain in the north.
Winds will blow from the west at 3 to 5 and locally in the south at 6 Beaufort.
The temperature will drop slightly.
