A series of aftershocks followed the major 6.2 magnitude earthquake that struck Istanbul, in the Sea of Marmara, earlier this Wednesday.
Earthquakes of over 4 magnitude have caused concern among residents of the city in western Turkey, with the latest being a 4.9 magnitude quake just after 3 pm, according to the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), while the Euro-Mediterranean Institute reported it as a 5.0 magnitude earthquake.
The strongest aftershock, however, registered 5.9 magnitude – according to AFAD – two minutes after the 6.2 quake, followed by others.
