A new turn has emerged in the case of the death of 24-year-old actress Sophie Nighwite, as her official death certificate reveals that she was pregnant at the time she was discovered deceased on the banks of a river in Vermont. Authorities are continuing to investigate the causes of her death, with the most likely scenario being accidental overdose.

According to the death certificate obtained by TMZ, the young actress was in the early stages of her pregnancy when her death was confirmed shortly before 5 am on April 14 in Bennington, Vermont, an area almost 40 km from her home. The cause of death has not yet been officially confirmed, as the results of the autopsy are still pending; however, police are seriously considering the possibility of an accidental overdose.
The scenario of foul play has not been ruled out, especially given that her body was found on the riverbank. A man was present at the scene who is cooperating with authorities but is not considered a suspect. Her mother, Shelley, spoke to TMZ yesterday, admitting that she was aware her daughter had been using substances, stating, “She was a very petite girl.” She revealed that Sophie Nighwite was with other individuals at the time of her death but did not know who they were.
Sophie Nighwite began her acting career at a young age, participating in films such as “Noah,” “Bella,” and “Shadows & Lies,” as well as episodes of the series “Law & Order.” Her mother stated that her daughter truly loved acting and had not experienced the negative encounters that other child actors have reported in the entertainment industry.
Her father described Sophie as “creative, athletic, and wise beyond her years,” emphasizing that she insisted on becoming an actress from an early age. Sophie Nighwite was born on July 8, 2000, in Burlington, Vermont. Her desire to become an actress was sparked by the films she watched at the “Village Picture Shows Cinema” in Manchester, Vermont, which her mother, Shelley Gibson, a former actress, purchased in 2003. “She grew up in that cinema, slept there, and had a little bed in the screening room where she watched many movies,” Shelley Gibson had said in an interview in 2010.
After watching Nancy Meyers’ film “Something’s Gotta Give” (2003) when she was just 4 years old, Sophie first expressed her desire to become an actress. “I kept begging my mom to let me be an actress. She thought it was funny because before I was born, she was an actress… but I didn’t know that,” she noted.
“She gives me a lot of useful advice and pointers,” she explained in another interview in 2010, adding, “She shows me how to get into character, like doing it in front of a mirror or practicing alone, doing it over and over until you get it right, trying it in different ways and seeing how it feels to you.”
Sophie Nighwite’s first role came in the film “Bella” (2006), where she played the title character in a screenplay directed by Alejandro Gómez Monteverde, alongside Eduardo Verástegui and Tammy Blanchard. The film won the Audience Award at the Toronto International Film Festival.
