The government has tabled an amendment in Parliament extending and concluding the profit margin cap measure—applied to food, essential goods, and fuel—until June 30, 2025, keeping the profit margins at the levels that existed on December 31, 2021. The amendment was submitted by Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos.
It also extends the following until October 31, 2025:
- Measures related to the Household Basket.
- The mandatory disclosure of price increases and fresh produce pricing.
- The ban on discounts and promotions for products that were price-hiked in the previous three months.
In his statement, Minister Theodorikakos emphasized that these measures have been a key tool for market oversight and consumer protection.
“This is a particularly strict measure, and through market inspections, it has significantly contributed to lowering inflation in food and essential goods,” he noted, adding:
“Greece currently has the lowest inflation in the Eurozone in this area, especially over the past five months.”
He also announced that the Ministry of Development has prepared a new framework of structural reforms aimed at consumer protection and market oversight, which will be presented at the next Cabinet meeting.
