In his speech, Mitsotakis described Greece’s ruling party, New Democracy (ND), as a “pillar of stability and prosperity,” both for Greece and within the broader European context. He underlined the importance of strategic autonomy and called for Europe to build its own collective defense capabilities, stating: “We must shape our own defense as Europe.”
The prime minister also held a meeting in Valencia with Friedrich Merz, leader of Germany’s CDU parliamentary group and the country’s chancellor-elect.
