The speed and a red traffic light were the cause of the savage beating of the doctor in front of his child’s eyes in Thessaloniki. According to the wife of the 36-year-old, the four perpetrators stormed into the car and punched him, resulting in their 3.5-year-old son suffering shock.
“I was not in the car; I was informed of the incident almost immediately by phone. We are in shock. My husband was subjected to unprovoked attack,” the woman told MEGA and described what happened.
“He was driving within the speed limits and even a bit slower because he had the child inside and was taking him to kindergarten. He noticed for a few seconds that a car was ‘running’ on the main road of Vassilissis Olgas during the day. My husband moved to the right with his indicators, and when he reached the orange light, he thought it was appropriate, with the child inside, to stop,” she said.
“From the back car, apparently the people got annoyed and started speaking vulgarities, saying that he cut them off and lost the light. Four people got out of the car, knocking on the window. The husband, because the child was inside, did not want to open the door or give way. He was afraid. They were hitting the window, breaking the driver’s mirror. At some point, the husband wanted to drive away, but due to traffic, he couldn’t. He didn’t want such an argument to continue in front of the child,” she added.
Then, one of the four managed to open the husband’s door and initially hit him inside the car, with the child right behind. They had stormed into the vehicle, the husband sitting there, and they were punching him in the face and chest, while the child was screaming “dad.”
The child keeps saying “I’m afraid”
The mother states that the 3.5-year-old was shaken by the incident, resulting in him waking up screaming: “He was a child with a good sleep routine who didn’t wake up at night. Since that day, he’s had constant nightmares, keeps shouting at us, comes into the bed, gets up, turns on the lights. We haven’t sent him to school since the incident. He also has issues with eating. For the two days after the event, he was starving. He keeps saying ‘I’m afraid,’ has become clingy to us, and asks if dad is okay, and we explain that dad wasn’t hurt, but the child remains distressed.”
The incident took place at 2 p.m. last Monday, April 28, at the intersection of Vassilissis Olgas and Syndika streets. The video of the attack:
