The implementation of the ban imposed by President Donald Trump on trans people serving in the US Armed Forces was allowed by the U.S. Supreme Court, while legal challenges to the measure continue.
The court’s ruling relates to a policy that provides for the exclusion of transgender people from the armed forces. The three liberal justices on the panel said they would prefer the measure remain suspended, according to AP.
The measure is part of a broader rollback of woke agenda that the Trump administration has been attempting since the start of his second term in January. Among other things, the Republican president signed an executive order according to which the gender identity of transgender soldiers “conflicts with the soldier’s commitment to an honorable, honest and disciplined lifestyle, even in his or her personal life,” which undermines the operational readiness of the Armed Forces.
Following the presidential order, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth issued a policy order giving 30 days’ notice to individual Army services to determine procedures for identifying and removing transgender people from the force.
