Christos Mavrikis, known for his involvement in the older wiretapping scandal, is the individual who attempted to bribe a senior judge in connection with a pending case concerning the legalization of a 100-stremma (10-hectare) land area in the Papagou district.

Earlier, it was reported that a well-known Supreme Court judge (Areopagite) filed a complaint after receiving a letter asking him to intervene in the case, with the promise of financial compensation.

The letter contained an implied offer of financial rewards.

However, as soon as the judge read the letter sent to him, he reported the bribery attempt to the leadership of the Supreme Court, also handing over the letter. According to sources, the letter hinted at financial incentives.

Judicial sources do not rule out the possibility that the person behind the bribery attempt—who now faces felony charges—may have acted on behalf of others, as the judge in question is considered one of the most respected figures among the new generation of the judiciary.

Following the judge’s complaint, an urgent preliminary investigation was ordered for the crime of judicial bribery, and the perpetrator is being sought under immediate arrest procedures.

It should be noted that Christos Mavrikis was convicted in 1998 and sentenced to five years in prison for his central role in the high-profile case involving the wiretapping of political figures.
