Farmers from Agia held a tractor protest today, Tuesday, to express their anger over the fact that they have not received compensation for the destruction of their 2024 cherry, chestnut, and apple crops.
According to the farmers, this year’s early cherries have also been severely affected by frost, with damage estimated at over 70–80%.
“We are being treated unfairly by the government and the Ministry of Rural Development, since we submitted the damage file for the affected crops as requested, and the damage exceeds 30% of the 2023 production. Cherries were supposed to be included in the 2023 compensation program, but that has not happened. We will not accept this injustice toward the producers,” said their representatives.
They further complain that “this is the second time Agia has suffered such injustice. The first was with storm Daniel, when we were excluded and only later included, and now, once again, other areas with the same crops are being included while we are left out.”
