A decision with immediate political consequences was issued by the Supreme Special Court, annulling the election of three Spartan MPs – Vassilis Stigas, Petros Dimitriadis and Alexandros Zervea – by accepting the appeals that had been filed against them.
This is the second time in the post-junda era that a Greek court has intervened so decisively in the formation of the Parliament, and the first time that the national delegation will function with 297 members, as there is no provision for replacing the outgoing deputies.
The Electoral Court’s decision was based on the reasoning that the election of the three men was allegedly done by “misleading the electorate”, as the party’s hidden leader was said to be Ilias Kasidiaris, who was sentenced for participating in a “criminal organization”.
