Changes to Athens Airport parking areas starting July 3 – What applies for motorcycles & cars

The changes are due to the start of construction of a new multi-storey parking facility with a capacity of 3,365 vehicles, which is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2027

Newsroom June 27 06:45

Parking arrangements at Athens International Airport will change starting July 10 for car drivers, and earlier, on July 3 for motorcyclists, due to the commencement of construction works for the new seven-story parking facility.

The new building, with a capacity of 3,365 vehicles and a total area of 98,600 sq.m., is part of the investment plan of Athens International Airport. This plan is being accelerated to accommodate up to 40 million passengers over the next seven years, in response to the already significant increase in passenger traffic.

The new facility will be built where the Short Term 1 parking area is currently located. As a result, there will be changes to the layout and operation of the airport’s parking facilities:
What Applies for Vehicles

From July 10, 2025, the Short Term 1 parking area will close and be relocated within the Long Term parking area, near the pedestrian bridge that leads to the Main Terminal. Athens International Airport advises all visitors to allow extra time for parking after this date.

Key Information:
There will be signage from Attiki Odos to guide drivers to the new Short Term 1 parking area.

The signage will include VMS (Variable Message Signs) showing real-time parking availability in Short Term 1 & 2 and the Long Term area.

Entry and exit will be handled with a single ticket, valid for both the Long Term parking and the new Short Term 1 area (located within Long Term).

Payment for Short Term 1 can be made:
At automatic pay stations near the escalators on the pedestrian bridge.
Or by card only at the Short Term 1 exit.
EV chargers will be relocated to the new Short Term 1 area.

Disabled parking spaces previously in Short Term 1 will move to Short Term 2 for direct access to the Main Terminal.

Pricing in the new Short Term 1 area remains unchanged.

The new Short Term 1 will offer 30 minutes of free parking (up from 20 minutes).

The distance from the new Short Term 1 to the Main Terminal is just a 5-minute walk.

The current Short Term 1 area will no longer be available from July 10, 2025. Vehicle owners are requested to remove their cars by midnight on July 10, as any remaining vehicles will be towed.
