The latest polls on voting intentions show a rise in support for the new right-wing party “National Future” in Italy. More specifically, according to a poll by the firm SWG, conducted on behalf of the private channel La7, General Roberto Vanacci’s “National Future” (whose founding convention took place last weekend) garners 5.3% of Italians’ voting intentions.
The main policy positions of this new party include mass deportations of illegal immigrants, the restriction of rights for many immigrants with work permits, and the view that members of the LGBTQI+ community should not enjoy any special legal protection. At this stage, General Vanacci’s new party has chosen not to support the government in Rome.
As for the parties of the conservative coalition, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s “Brothers of Italy” remains the country’s leading political force, with 27.9%. “Forza Italia,” led by Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, is chosen by 7.2% of respondents, and Matteo Salvini’s League (from which many National Future leaders hail) slips to 5.3%.
As for the opposition, the Democratic Party, led by Elly Schlein, is once again in the lead by a wide margin with 22.1% of the vote. Former Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte’s “Five Star Movement” stands at 13.3%, while the Italian Left and the Greens “convince” just 6.5% of the statistical sample.
They are followed by the small centrist parties “Azione” with 3.1% and “Viva Italia” led by former Prime Minister Matteo Renzi with 2.4%. The radicals of the “More Europe” party secure 1.6% of the voting intention.
