Backlash in Britain over Macron: Accused of disrespect for walking ahead of King Charles — “Playing Napoleon,” critics say

Many people remembered that Trump had done something similar in his first term with Queen Elizabeth

The move by the President of France, Emanuel Macron, to walk in front of King Charles during a cavalry inspection at Windsor Castle has provoked strong reactions in Britain.

British journalists reporting live on what was happening as part of the French president’s official visit to Britain on an official visit to Britain cited a possible breach of protocol.

They even recalled that a few years ago something similar had happened with Donald Trump and then Queen Elizabeth in a similar situation with the current US president being “told off” for his behaviour.

According to other journalists, however, what happened with Macron may be “normal behaviour as the king as host may give the head of state he is hosting as guest of honour at Windsor Castle the edge.”

These explanations, however, do not appear to have been accepted by commentators on social media with some calling it a deliberate act of disrespect by Macron.

“He’s doing it on purpose. He’s French, doesn’t believe in the monarchy and is a complete narcissist trying to play Napoleon for 5 minutes,” one wrote, according to the Daily Mail.

“I think he did it on purpose. I believe he won’t be criticised as much as Trump,” insisted a second, “at least Trump corrected his mistake by waiting for the Queen. Macron believes he is the supreme leader.”
